When you are a doctor, but also a woman
Sometimes you just want to drink coffee in silence. Without phone calls, without emergency situations, without phrases like "Doctor, my temperature is 37, is it urgent?"
And then my mother calls and asks:
- Valeria, do you even eat?
- No, Mom, I live on adrenaline and sarcasm.
Sometimes patients tell me: "Doctor, you are so beautiful! Why aren't you a model?"
I answer: "Because models don't hear the phrase: "Please take the catheter out of me.""
A doctor's job is not about a white coat and TV series. It's when you read messages from men at lunch with the phrases "Hi, baby", and 2 minutes later you are stitching up a cut from a glass cutter.
But you know what's the strangest thing? Despite all this, I love my job. Because every day I see how life goes on.
And even if someone is silent in the chat, I know that somewhere there is a person who one day will not just open the letter, but will respond. And maybe not “Hi, baby,” but: “How was your day, doctor?”
